World Alzheimer’s Day is recognized each year on September 21st. Matthew Dineen suggested that Catholic Aging offer prayers for our community (you) throughout the world to be submitted to our Pastors for inclusion in the Mass on and around September 21st. He and I drafted a list of prayers for your consideration below. They can be edited at Father’s discretion, and no attribution to Catholic Aging is requested. Please do tell him about us, though!
This is a perennial post – these prayers can be used year after year. In 2026, the hope is that the prayers are considered for Saturday, September 19th, Sunday, September 20th, and Monday, September 21st.
- For those experiencing various forms of dementia, such as Alzheimer’s, frontotemporal, and Lewy body, that they may be at peace and come to know the healing presence of Jesus in their lives.
- For society to recognize the dignity and inherent goodness of those suffering from all forms of dementia.
- For family and friends caring for the needs of loved ones living with dementia, that they be given the grace of patience, resilience, and continued compassion.
- For medical and social professionals as well as volunteers who serve those living with dementia and their families, that the Lord will continue to bless their work.
- For parishes to be dedicated to creating welcoming and supportive environments for those living with dementia and their care partners.
- For those called by Christ to serve and assist their fellow brothers and sisters impacted by dementia, visiting them in their homes and care facilities.
