Chapter XII Of Sadness and Sorrow of “Introduction to the Devout Life”

By St. Francis De Sales St. PAUL says that “godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of, but the sorrow of the world worketh death.” 187 So we see that sorrow may be good or bad according to the several results it produces in us. Any italics are my emphasis: ANXIETY of mind is not so much an abstract temptation, as the source whence various temptations arise. Sadness, when defined, is the mental grief we feel because of our involuntary ailments;—whether the evil be exterior, such as poverty,

Easing the Conversation on Driving

If we are blessed to be old enough, we will all reach a condition where we can no longer safely drive. It may be our vision, cognition, or something physical, such as the limited range of moving the head and neck. St. Andrew Christmas Novena

I’m a cradle Catholic and just heard about this special novena. I could get salty every time that I learn something that was kept from me (and most) growing up in the 1980s/1990s, but I am too excited to share this in teaching or reminding you. The St. Andrew (my Confirmation Saint) Christmas Novena is recited 15 (Fifteen) times per day starting on his feast day of November 30th through December 24th. Yes, more than 9 (novena) days.

In-Home Services: Non-Medical Respite & Sitters

Non-Medical Respite/Sitter/Companion Services (Respite hereafter) can offer engagement & activity, companionship, light housekeeping, meal preparation, bathing, shopping, and more, usually in 4-hour minimum blocks. The exact services and what they mean are decided by each agency/provider. How is it paid for? These are traditionally considered “self-pay” services (not covered by insurances), however, some Medicare Advantage plans (optional Medicare Part C) do have this as a benefit. Some “Long-term care” policies may also have this as a covered expense for a period of time.

Thank You, St. Jude

Painting: Anthony van Dyck, Public domain, via Wikimedia Commons Catholics and non-Catholics alike know of St. Jude Thaddeus, patron saint of lost or hopeless causes. Many seek his prayers and own a candle, prayer card, or medal with his image. St. Jude and his brother St. Simon celebrate their feast day (both old and new calendars) on Thursday, October 28th. This year, the day falls on a Thursday, a day when Fr. Damian does not pray the Latin Mass publicly (so he can have a much-deserved day to rest.
